Some of us associate September with the end of summer: earlier evenings, colder days, the leaves starting to fall. But if you’re in the stone industry, then you associate it with Verona.
Last month, we attended the 60th edition of Marmomac held in the picturesque Italian city of Verona. It’s one of the world’s leading events dedicated to natural stone, bringing together designers, architects, and stone specialists from across the industry. More than simply a showcase of the latest stone collections, Marmomac offers a fascinating insight into where the material is heading, from fabrication to innovation. This year’s edition was an impressive display of what’s shaping the stone world right now, and a reminder just how creative natural stone really is.
Among the highlights were an immersive stone experience by Antolini. Their installation transformed the hall into a world of stone and mirrors, tracing the material’s journey from its rawest, most elemental state through to its final, highly finished form.
The new cultural pavilion, The Bedrock, explored the evolving relationship between natural stone and design, while Pantheon marked Marmomac’s 60th anniversary with 15 monumental columns showcasing 60 different stone surfaces that had been sourced from around the world.
If anything, the 60th edition showed that stone is far from a static material, and as the industry continues to push its creative and technical boundaries, it will be fascinating to see where stone takes us next.
